It has been a short six school days that the Elkay Refillable Water filling station has been installed on our campus and so far all we have heard is great feedback. The Refillable Water station has been proven a great success for it has filled a total of 358 water bottles so far.We currently are contacting the local newspaper to promote this project to other local schools and institutions. We thank the Lexus Eco Challenge for this amazing oppurtunity. We will keep you all updated on how many water bottles we have saved, along with more pictures on how we are promoting this on our campus.
If you have been in a picture taken by our team and would like a copy of your picture please email us so that we could send a copy of the pictures to you. Our team printed out huge banners that stated, "I pledge to not use single-use water bottles.." These banners were passed to almost every classroom on campus and our team gave a quick presentation to the class on what our project is about and how they could help in the cause. We truly appreciate to all the students that signed the pledge and to all the teachers that allowed us to provide them with a banner.
As students walked into the main hallway on Monday morning, there was an unexpected surprise -- even to our team. The old water fountain had been removed and the district's custodial staff had begun working on adding the electrical extension along with the new pipe that needed to be installed. This was a surprise for many students for they were not aware of what it was going to be replaced with. This is when our team came together and decided to present our idea to the classes at Clark. We also planned on doing a Green Ribbon Week were we will have students sign pledges and learn more about our project and the environmental issue as a whole. We are lucky to have captured some pictures of the previous water fountain which was really old and had rust forming on the edge of where the water flowed out. Check the pictures below to see the pictures of the previous fountain and the progress. The Elkay Refillable water station has finally arrived to our school. Project Manager John Bandek sprinted to the main office when he heard the delivery had arrived. We have decided to install the water filling station on the first floor because not only is it the easiest place to install in campus, but we believe that it will give students the oppurtunity to fill their re-usable water bottles when they come through the main doors in the morning. This station will be accessible for all students and faculty.
We just heard word from our school Secretary, Mrs. Susan Lockhart, that we have successfully purchased the water filling station. The shipment is expected to arrive on October 11, 2016 to the Glendale Unified School District's warehouse. Meanwhile, the district will be working with our administration and project manager, John Bandek, to see the most ideal location along with estimated costs for the installation of the station.
